 BRIAN TEJADA

Robotics and Math Teacher

Brian was born and raised in North Philadelphia. He is currently in his senior year at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, where he is completing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics with minors in Computer Science and Math. His love of building things started early and grew through years of hands-on projects, from designing and fabricating steel remote-control BattleBots for robotics competitions to restoring a used car from the ground up. At SJU, Brian has served as a Physics Lab Teaching Assistant and as a research assistant in materials science.

Brian enjoys helping students connect classroom concepts to things they can build. As an AP instructor with Heights Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania, he created and taught his own AP Java and Physics curriculum to cohorts of 10 to 25 students. He guided them through building and programming Raspberry Pi rovers, and worked with the Penn Engineering Department to introduce them to SolidWorks and CAD. He has also worked as a lab assistant with Penn Robotics, designing and fabricating robotic parts, writing and deploying code, and introducing visiting students to cutting-edge robotics research. In the summers, he has served as a counselor at a community bike and scooter camp, teaching kids how to repair and ride their own bikes.

In his free time, Brian loves working on personal mechanical engineering projects, going to the gym, and playing puzzle games. Brian has a list of multiple "Daily 'DLES" such as the Wordle, that he enjoys keeping up with every day. He is excited to foster a hands-on environment where students can learn the beginnings of complex math and science fields in an engaging way.
