Math Teacher

 

We are looking for a part-time Math teachers for grades K through 4 on Sundays (4-8 hours a week/30 wks Sep-May plus possible additional weeks during the summer). Compensation starts at $40/hr.

Job responsibilities
-        Teaching math enrichment classes to small groups of children in-person using a proprietary math enrichment curriculum, developed in the best traditions of Russian math circles and American hands-on enrichment programs
-        Supporting the development of an innovative, diverse, game-based curriculum for children ages four through thirteen

Requirements
-        Love of children and of mathematics
-        Ability to engage with children, to earn their trust and make challenging material age-appropriate and interesting
-        Flexibility to adjust to children’s needs, levels and group dynamics
-        Curiosity, creativity and open-mindedness
-         Completion of at least 3 years of college required, college degree preferred, math or early childhood education majors preferred – position ideal for recent college graduates or current graduate students. 
-       Fingerprints, Criminal and Child abuse clearances required
-       W9 form required
-        US citizens and permanent residents only (no visa sponsorship programs, please)

 

 

Lego Robotics Coach

 

We are looking for a part-time Lego Robotics teacher for 1st to 3rd grade students on Saturdays and/or Sundays  (starting in September, 2024 - 2-6 hours a week/30 wks Sep-May plus possible additional weeks during the summer). Compensation starts at $40/hr.

Job responsibilities

  • Working through lesson plans based on Lego Robotics kits

  • Teaching groups of 4-8 children how to create their Lego robots and code them to perform specific tasks

  • Taking a few photos of key moments during class and writing up a 2-3 sentence synopsis of the lesson for social media posting

  • Possibility to teach additional classes in math or chess for our enrichment program

Requirements

  • Prior experience teaching/coaching/working with Lego Robots

  • Experience LEGO® Education SPIKE™ is a big plus

  • Love of children and of robotics

  • Ability to engage with children, give them the freedom to build their own robots while helping and troubleshooting 

  • Flexibility to adjust to children’s needs, levels and group dynamics

  • Curiosity, creativity and open-mindedness

  • Currently enrolled in college or recent graduate who has demonstrated continued interest in Robotics

  • Fingerprints, Criminal and Child abuse clearances required

Chess Teacher

 

We are looking for a part-time Lego Robotics teacher for 1st to 3rd grade students on Saturdays and/or Sundays or weekdays online  (starting in September, 2024 - 2-6 hours a week/30 wks Sep-May plus possible additional weeks during the summer). Compensation starts at $40/hr.

Job responsibilities

  • Conduct beginner and intermediate level chess classes in person and/or online;

  • Create a positive and engaging learning atmosphere where children have fun and feel comfortable asking questions and exploring.

  • Teach and practice with children the rules, strategies and tactics using a simple, clear and age-appropriate language.

  • Adapt teaching methods to suit the diverse learning styles and paces of young students.

  • Encourage good sportsmanship and a positive attitude towards learning and competition.

  • Communicate effectively with the school on student progress.

 

Requirements

  • A genuine enthusiasm for chess and working with children.

  • The ability to connect with and motivate young learners.

  • Chess proficiency sufficient to teach beginner and intermediate level concepts (familiarity with basic openings, strategies and tactics, endgame principles). You don't need to be a grandmaster!

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude.

  • Reliability and punctuality.

  • Prior experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting. 

  • Basic knowledge of child development is beneficial.

  • Fingerprints, Criminal and Child abuse clearances required for in-person classes.
