YULIA SHPILMAN

School Founder, Co-Owner and Math and Russian Teacher

 

Yulia was born in Moscow, Russia and moved to the US with her family when she was in elementary school.  She grew up in the Philadelphia area and went to Central High School. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Huntsman Program at the University of Pennsylvania and holds a BS in Economics from the Wharton School, and a BA in International Studies and French from the Penn’s College of Arts and Sciences.  Yulia also holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.

 

Yulia founded Golden Key in 2013 to help her own children and children of other Russian immigrants to become bilingual and to teach children the beauty and joy of mathematics. She has, together with some Golden Key teachers, developed an innovative and hands-on math enrichment curriculum for Golden Key. and continues to teach math enrichment classes to GK students. Yulia's other passion is Russian literature, and she enjoys teaching literature classes to heritage speakers at GK. Before founding Golden Key and working in education, Yulia's professional experience was in the corporate world - she has worked as a strategy and organization consultant for the Boston Consulting Group in Boston and for Vanguard in the Philadelphia area.  

 

Yulia has two sons, Ari and Ben, and a daughter, Tali, all of whom attend Golden Key Enrichment. She resides with her family and two cats in Devon, PA. In her free time, Yulia enjoys reading poetry and Russian classics, biking and hiking, attending family camps and putting on plays with young children.
